More than a quarter of drivers are still unaware of gender ruling

Twenty-six per cent of drivers are unaware that their car insurance premiums could rise due to the new European gender ruling.

Young drivers are the most aware of the new law, with 78pc of those aged 18-24 saying they knew about the changes, according to a survey conducted by AA insurance.

Women drivers are the least likely to know that insurers will no longer be able to take gender into account when calculating their car insurance premiums.

However, they are the ones most likely to see their premiums increase under the new law, with younger women in particular being affected. They could see their car insurance costs rocket by 25pc or more.
