Self-texting cars? Carmakers attempt to curb texting and driving with new technologies

There’s no doubt texting and driving can be dangerous, but what if your vehicle was the one sending the message?
Automakers, including the Detroit Three, are developing ways to deter drivers from texting by using voice commands and having vehicles automatically respond to incoming messages.
Nick Pudar, General Motors Co.’s OnStar vice president of business and planning development, said the Detroit-based automaker is testing a system where the vehicle will help “manage” – not block – text messages while someone is driving.
