New parking laws that make it illegal for private companies to clamp cars come into force today, although most motorists know nothing about them.
Wheel clamping on private land becomes illegal in England and Wales today as new parking laws are introduced, although most drivers are unaware that the changes are taking place.
That's according to a survey carried out by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, which revealed that 91 per cent of people don't know that from today, October 1, they are required by law to provide details of the driver of any vehicle wrongfully parked on private land.
The study of 2,066 people also found that about 50 pc of motorists are unaware that their consumer rights vary depending on whether a parking ticket was issued by a private company or a local council, and that 89 pc don't know about the soon to be launched independent appeals service for those who wish to contest a ticket for parking on private land.
