Nissan and Toyota recall thousands of cars

Nearly a million cars are to be recalled by Toyota and Nissan due to potentially faulty airbags.

Across Europe, cars made between March 2003 and March 2007 are to be investigated because of their passenger-side airbag. Some of the most popular models are affected, such as the Corolla, Yaris, Verso and Avensis as well as the six-seater Picnic.

Further to this, another 271,000 Yaris, Rav 4 and Hilux models produced between July 2003 and December 2005 are being recalled over their driver-side airbags.

Toyota stress that there have been no related injuries involving its vehicles, despite around five million vehicles being recalled worldwide, including 125,000 in the UK.

They stated that their investigations showed that some of their airbags may be susceptible to moisture intrusion, which would affect their deployment in an accident.

Meanwhile, Nissan is recalling around 563,00 vehicles in Europe and around 1.56 million across the world.

This move will certainly alarm motorists who own these vehicles, but Toyota state they will replace new airbag inflators if required.
